The question is asked because your gridiron heroes, the Detroit Lions, have accumulated injuries to key players as the team continues training camp in Allen Park.

The Lions already have kicker Michael Badgley on season-ending injured reserve.  Plus they have a few other backups on IR.  The other kicker in camp, Jake Bates, is the leader to be the kicker when they start the season in September.

But now, if you believe the reports, the Lions have now lost significant players for the time being.  Starting running back Jahmyr Gibbs (pictured above) suffered a hamstring injury during Monday night's practice.  Also, rookie defensive backs Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw got hurt during the Monday practice.  No word as to if they'll miss the start of the season.

Also, backup QB Hendon Hooker suffered a concussion in the Lions' preseason loss to the New York Giants last week, and is in concussion protocol.  The team has signed former Georgia Bulldog QB Jake Fromm to the roster to replace Hooker.  Veteran Nate Sudfeld is still on the roster as a backup QB.

And let's not forget about the injuries to defensive linemen John Comminsky and D.J. Reader.  Comminsky is out for most of the season.  And Reader, a big free agent acquisition this offseason, isn't expected to be ready for Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams.

IMO, if the Lions lose Gibbs for a significant period of time, that is a major problem.  You don't want the other running back, David Montgomery, to be the singular ballcarrier.  So that would leave you with Craig Reynolds, Zonovan Knight, or rookie Sione Vaki.  Not as good as Jahmyr Gibbs.

And as Tim Staudt says:  "Jared Goff better not get hurt!!!"  Look out if that happens.
