Lions’ RB David Montgomery Reportedly Traded to the Texans
Detroit Lions' star running back David Montgomery is reportedly on his way out of the Motor City.

ESPN's Adam Schefter broke the news on X on March 2, saying DMo will be heading to Houston to play for the Houston Texans.
According to Schefter, Montgomery has been traded to the Texans in exchange for offensive lineman Juice Scruggs as well as a draft pick. Originally, Schefter reported that it would be a fifth-round draft pick, but later updated to say that it would be a sixth-round pick.

Lions' fans won't see the fruits of that draft pick soon, though. The terms of the trade will give the Lions that extra seventh-round pick in the 2027 NFL draft.
Why Is David Montgomery Leaving the Detroit Lions?
At this point, it's unclear if DMo had requested to be traded or if this was a choice made by the Lions' front office.
Around Christmas 2025, Montgomery left many Lions' fans wondering if he was looking to leave the organization after the star running back removed the majority of his posts from Instagram. He left only one post on his IG account - a photo of himself in uniform, along with the text,
God Grant me Humility and Gratitude and relieve me of Selfishness and Fear #blessed

David Montgomery's Message to Lions' Fans
In an Instagram post a few hours after the news broke, Montgomery expressed his appreciation and love for Detroit Lions fans. He said,
Detroit has never just been a location to me - it's been a community. And you all have been more than supporters or a team. You've been steady hands, loud cheers, honest feedback, and quiet strength when I needed it most.
He assured the fans that "everything I do next carries a piece of Detroit with it."
