Lovable Losers: Meet The Worst Detroit Sports Teams Of All Time
I'm not a doctor, but being a Detroit Sports fan has got to be bad for your health.
We've experienced some incredible highs and some devastating lows.
On the high end, three of our four professional teams have won championships.
- The Detroit Pistons are Three-time NBA League Champions in
(1989, 1990, 2004)
- The Detroit Red Wings are 11-time Stanley Cup champions in
(1936, 1937, 1943, 1950, 1952, 1954, 1955, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2008)
- The Detroit Tigers are Four-time World Series champions in
(1935, 1945, 1968, 1984)
On the low end, The Pistons, Tigers, Red Wings, and Lions have all had terrible seasons we would love to never discuss again.
Lovable Losers: The Worst Detroit Sports Teams Of All Time
When we take a look at Detroit's four professional sports teams, these are the worst seasons in the team's history.
The 2019-2020 Detroit Red Wings Team
The pandemic made everything crazy with games having to be canceled, but that had no impact on how bad this team was.
The Red Wings finished the season 17-49-5, with 39 points.
The Red Wings winning percentage was the worst seen in the NHL since 2000.
The 2003 Detroit Tigers Team
The 2003 Detroit Tigers don't hold the record for the worst MLB season, that record belongs to the 1899 Cleveland Spiders who went (20-134)
but the Tiger's 43-119 record was the lowest winning percentage the league had seen since 1962.
The 2023-2024 Detroit Pistons Team
At the time of this article being published the 2023-2024 Detroit Pistons have an embarrassing record of 3-29.
This year's team set the record for the longest losing streak in a single season, losing 28 consecutive games.
The Philadelphia 76ers also lost 28 consecutive games, but across two seasons: 2014–15 and 2015–16
The 2008 Detroit Lions Team
The Lions started the preseason 4-0.
Unfortunately, they became the first franchise in NFL history to lose every regular season game and go 0-16.
Thankfully Dan Campbell has turned the team around and the Lions are the 2023-2024 NFC North Champions for the first time since 1993.
