Another way police stop high speed chases is by performing a PIT Maneuver.
The PIT maneuver, which stands for Pursuit Intervention Technique, involves a pursuing police vehicle intentionally making contact with the fleeing car to force it to spin out and stop.

In recent years new technology has come out giving police more options to stop a vehicle that doesn't want to pull over.
Police in Livonia recently used a Grappler Device to stop a stolen vehicle.
A net is located inside the front bumper of a police vehicle.
Police get close to the vehicle they want to stop and deploy the net.
It then locks on to the tire bringing the fleeing vehicle to a safe stop.

In this chase, it worked exactly as it was supposed to. The only thing damaged was the stolen vehicle.
The driver of the stolen car kept trying to get away by reversing and then pulling away.
After a few tries, the car's rear axle was ripped completely off, ending the pursuit.
