Witnesses reported that officers performed CPR, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jenete Hernandez, an employee at Ara Salon, suggested that a stop sign at the location could enhance pedestrian safety.

She recalled that a stop sign used to be there but was frequently run over and eventually removed.

The Grand Rapids Police Department is seeking information regarding the hit-and-run and encourages anyone with details to contact them at 616.456.3400 or Silent Observer.

What Charges Could The Driver Face?

If the driver who hit and killed the man is caught or turns himself in they could face some serious consequences.

Hit-and-run drivers can be given hefty fines and potential incarceration, as leaving the scene of an accident without providing aid or information is a criminal offense.
