West Michigan Nonprofit Gifting 4,000 Kids Free Shoes at DeVos Place

Parents know all too well how expensive it can be to get your kids all the basics so they can show up to school prepared and ready to learn.

A local nonprofit in West Michigan is stepping up to help make sure kids have new shoes for when they step back into the classroom.

In The Image Giving Out 4,000 Pairs of Shoes To Kent County Students

Students that are entering kindergarten through fifth grade are able to get a free pair of athletic shoes, a backpack full of school supplies and a gift at the free event.

The event kicked off today and will continue on Thursday, August 14th at DeVos Place from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. 

In The Image executive director Ashley Lubbers shared with Wood TV why this is a great way for the community to support each other.

“We definitely feel the squeeze this year. I think we all feel it. Groceries are more expensive. So this is just a great way for our community to support each other. And it really does take a village to support these kids and the families that are coming through so they can come in and get supplies for school. And they also receive a gift. And they’re kind of ready to go. We want them to be excited about school.”

I love that this event has been happening for 30 years and during that time helped provide 100,000 students with shoes.
