To most people, every location of a chain restaurant looks exactly the same. And that certainly is the case most of the time

But, occasionally you run across unique ones, like the 50th Anniversary McDonald's in Chicago. And recently I came across a photo on social media that made me stop and think, "That might possibly be the world's cutest Kentucky Fried Chicken..."

Is This Northern Michigan KFC the Cutest in the World?

There's really no definitive answer to that question because cuteness is subjective, right? But the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) located on E Central Ave. in Mackinaw City is pretty darned adorable.

You'll find this gem not far from the Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry. It's surrounded by other, equally adorable businesses like Coffman Hardware, The Mackinaw Bridge Museum, and Mamma Mia's Pizza.

It appears that it's always looked roughly the same, though Google Street View does show a slightly aesthetic out front back in 2018.

The Downtown Design Rules That Might Explain Mackinaw City's KFC's Look

I'm led to believe, just by taking a stroll down the street via Google Street View, that the city likely has specifications for businesses in the area because they're all quaint little things, even the national and regional chains. That seems to be the case based on the city's 2024-29 master plan, which states that "appropriate" downtown businesses are what they call "traditional." They describe the look of those buildings by saying,

Common architectural patterns for developments include storefronts with recessed entries, bulkheads elevating large display windows, transom windows below the storefront cornice, upper cornices that cap the top of the façade, and pillars that horizontally break storefronts from adjacent buildings

In the end, it doesn't matter why it's so adorable; I'm just glad to see that it's likely to stay that way.
