The West Michigan Whitecaps just picked up a national honor that officially puts them at the top of Minor League Baseball.

Baseball America has named the Whitecaps the 2025 Minor League Team of the Year, which means out of all 120 teams across the country, the best one played right here in West Michigan at LMCU Ballpark.

(Not bad for a team that already gave us plenty to cheer about this season)

The award caps off what can only be described as a dream season. The Whitecaps tore through the Midwest League with a dominant run that included tying a franchise record for wins, rolling through the postseason, and capturing their seventh Midwest League Championship.

Night after night, this team delivered everything fans love, with a lineup stacked with Detroit Tigers prospects that made every game feel like a sneak peek at the future.

Baseball America doesn’t hand this award out lightly. It’s based on overall performance, player development, and organizational excellence, making it one of the most respected honors in professional baseball.

And West Michigan showed up to celebrate this incredible team and their run. Attendance has grown for four straight years, with the highest average crowds the ballpark has seen in more than two decades.

Between recent ballpark improvements and a team that was genuinely fun to watch, LMCU Ballpark became a must-stop summer destination. With the incredible upgrades coming to the stadium each season, it’s truly the best time to be a Whitecaps fan.

In a statement, the Whitecaps leadership credited the West Michigan community and the Detroit Tigers organization for helping fuel the team’s success, pointing out that this kind of achievement takes support on and off the field.

If you’re already missing baseball season, the wait won’t be long. The Whitecaps open the new season on the road April 2 against the Lake County Captains, before returning home April 7 for their home opener against the Great Lakes Loons. Get tickets, and see you there.
