Michigan's Upper Peninsula is home to numerous ice caves and formations, offering visitors breathtaking sights and unforgettable experiences. These thousands of ice formations are created through a combination of freezing temperatures, water seeping into cracks and crevices, and the gradual buildup of ice over time, often shaped by wind, flowing water, and seasonal thawing and refreezing.

Michigan's key ice cave locations are Eben Ice Caves near Eben Junction, and Grand Island Ice Caves in Munising. Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore offers some great formations near Miners Falls. The best time to visit is mid-January through February.

If you would like to visit the ice caves on the northern coast of Wisconsin, make sure you plan ahead to make sure they are safe to visit. Many visit the ice caves by snowmobile but there are $10 round trip shuttle service that is cash only and run nearly every 25 to 30 minutes.
