Weddings can be expensive. From the catering, wedding coordinator, photographer, florist, makeup artist, the venue, tuxedo rental, DJ, the cake... gulp. Don't get me started. Basically, a traditional wedding isn't for everybody, or some people prefer a more subtle arrangement.

The best of both worlds is an inexpensive yet very official courthouse wedding at the district court in your county. The problem is that scheduling a courthouse is traditionally at the whim of whatever time slot fits you into the schedule. Generally, that can mean long waits either online or in person.

But Kent County (the 63rd District Court) has completely streamlined the process by introducing a brand-new online system to book marriage ceremonies.

63rd District Court Wedding Booking Online

Starting this week, the court will allow would-be spouses to book their 15-minute ceremony online, with the ceremony still taking place at the courthouse when the time comes. All wedding ceremonies take place on Mondays and Tuesdays, with bookings available 90 days in advance.

Currently, the 63rd District Court is already fully booked until July, but new dates are added every Monday and Tuesday. Other district courts in the area that officiate weddings include the 61st DC (Grand Rapids), the 59th DC (Walker & Grandville), and the 62-B DC (Kentwood).

As always, anyone partaking in a courthouse wedding must bring a valid Michigan marriage license ($30), two 18+ witnesses, and pay a $10 ceremony fee.
