If you live in Michigan, you've probably been to Michigan Adventure (MA) at some point. My family and I went many times over the years (my sister's favorite was Mad Mouse - however, she always sat in the middle and never experienced the fear of feeling like you'd fall out of your seat every turn). The parking lot for MA is massive, but did you know there is another parking lot?

I understand how lame that sounds, but bear with me.

History of Michigan's Adventure

Michigan's Adventure has been around for nearly seven decades, starting in 1956. Since then, the amusement park has expanded by adding new rides and parks to keep the park relevant and new. It was bought by Cedar Fair, the owner of other parks like Cedar Point, in 2001 and has experienced continued success since. It has more than 60 rides across the water parks and amusement parks.

The park is open for the season between late May and October.

Overflow Parking

The overflow parking is located across the street from the park's main parking lot, which is massive in its own right and can get super full on a blistering July day. This other lot gets used sparingly when the park is very full, and according to a Facebook group of annual pass holders, some people have never seen it get used despite going frequently.

There is obviously a need for an overflow lot, but there is so much space here that I can't help but think about what else could be used there. The amusement park is closed for extended periods during the winter. What if Cedar Fair were to add a music venue or a stadium? Something that can bring in a large number of people to utilize the loads of parking spots already available?

It'll be interesting to see if anything gets put in this space but for now, it just serves as a really large and empty plot of land. Hopefully, you never find yourself needing to park in it or that will be one busy day. If you pull up to the park and people are parking in that lot, you may as well just turn around.
