Grand Rapids Does Have A Proper Time To Mow Your Lawn
We're halfway through May, and we're back in lawnmowing season. Your grass is getting long, and you're preparing for that first mow of the season, or maybe you've been participating in "no mow may". But one thing is for sure, that neighbor has probably already mowed his lawn 7 times this season, even if it's barely grown.

Yes, many of us know someone who takes their lawn very seriously and will be up at dawn to mow it. It can be annoying to be woken up by the early sound of a lawnmower while you're trying to get some beauty sleep.
So, is there a proper time to start mowing one's lawn? It turns out that yes, Grand Rapids has a specific start time for when one can mow their lawn.
Grand Rapids Noise Ordinance: Lawnmowing
Highlighted in Article 5: Noise Control, Section 9.63, subsection 8, the City of Grand Rapids highlights exactly when motorized lawnmowers and other lawn tools can be used:
(8) Operate or use, between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., any motorized lawnmower or other lawn, landscaping, or yard maintenance equipment or domestic power tools.
Mower noise ordinances are county/city-specific; however, since Michigan doesn't have a standard rule on this, most stick to the general rule of not starting until 7 or 8.
If someone were truly ambitious enough to, they could mow the lawn like in the old days before motorized mowers, but most aren't doing that.
