Was Acme, MI The Inspiration For The Looney Tunes’ Infamous Company??
I may have been born in 1999, but I was a massive fan of Hanna-Barbera cartoons thanks to spending hours watching Boomerang at my grandma's house. The channel offered an endless cycle of classic cartoons like The Flintstones, Looney Tunes, and Tom and Jerry, as well as 90s Cartoon Network cartoons like Courage the Cowardly Dog and The Powerpuff Girls.

In one of those shows, Looney Tunes, there's an infamous company whose products work to varying degrees, and typically come at the expense of one Wile E. Coyote. But where does the name of the fictional company, ACME Corporation, come from, and does it have anything to do with Michigan's very own township of Acme?

The History of Acme Township
Located in Northeast Michigan, just west of Traverse City, you'll find Acme Township, a township with a population of 4,456 people. Nowadays, it is a tourist hotspot known for the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, its multiple golf courses, and the Magic House Museum. But back when the village of Acme was established in 1855, it was known as an "up-and-coming industrial town."

Throughout Acme's history, there have been sawmills, shingle mills, wool mills, a planing mill, and even a blacksmith shop. While the area was known for creating goods, it was never a producer of dynamite. Sadly, it doesn't seem that Acme had any influence on the fictional corporation, and there appears to be evidence that the company isn't even hypothetically based in Acme; instead, an episode called Beep, Beep reveals that Acme is based in Fairfield, New Jersey.

Where Does "ACME" Come From?
The word "acme" comes from the Greek meaning "peak", "zenith", or "prime", indicating that everything that the company created was the best. Obviously, as Wile E. Coyote demonstrated many times, these products were the opposite of that, with todayifoundout.com reminding that the company's slogan was "Quality is our #1 dream."
According to an interview with Chuck Jones, an animator, writer, and director on Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies, the reason for the "Acme" name is an old phone book trick in which businesses would rebrand as "Acme" to be listed higher in the yellow pages.
So, considering Acme, MI was around before the yellow pages were even created, it is nothing more than a coincidence.
