The Red Cross is working with West Michigan churches and organizations to host cooling stations to allow people an escape from the summer heat wave.

Mel Trotter Ministries at 225 Commerce Ave. SW in Grand Rapids is open 24 hours a day for anyone who needs a cool place to stay for a short time.  People can get cold water and spend time in the ministry's air conditioned chapel.

Wesley Park United Methodist Church at 1150 32nd St. SW in Wyoming is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through Friday, as is Rockford Reformed Church at 4890 11 Mile Rd. NE.

The city of Grand Haven is opening its public buildings during normal business hours, while the Salvation Army at 310 N. Despelder St. is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  In the Village of Spring Lake, Barber School is open from Barber School from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Greenville Area Community Center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.  The Greenville Area Senior Center is open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, 1-4 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday.
