See How They Created ‘Gemini Man’s Incredible Young Will Smith
Directors love making films about men at war with themselves. Usually these battle are of a more metaphorical nature; a dude wrestling with his nature, fighting his inner demons. Gemini Man is like that, but literally.
It stars Will Smith, playing opposite ... Will Smith. One is the guy we know in 2019. The other is a much younger version of Smith, from around the era he was breaking through in movies like Independence Day. The featurette above shows you how the film’s visual effects wizards created the character. Young Will Smith was played by present day Smith with motion capture technology, and then the data was fed into computers and used to create an entirely digital character.
He ... does not look fake in that featurette, which is both shockingly impressive and vaguely troubling. If you can make a lifelike young Will Smith ... what else can you create that will fool the eye?
