If you are a resident of the city of Kentwood, you can now show off your holiday decorating skills that you could earn you the Kentwood's Clark Griswold Trophy.

Too bad I don't live in Kentwood because you had me at Kentwood's Clark Griswold Trophy. I will take some time to pay Kentwood a visit closer to Christmas and see how everyone decorates their homes.

According to FOX 17, Kentwood residents interested in participating will need to register online and then submit photos of their outdoor display. The city will post the photos on its social media platforms, where community members can vote for their favorite display.

I'm sure this will be an exciting contest for the families in Kentwood. There are so many cool decorations these days, the ideas are endless.

The contest will run from November 26 through January 3 so you have plenty of time to create your design plus scope out the competition who gets their lights up early.

It is fun to see kids' eyes light up when they see houses decorated. Even as an adult I get a kick out of seeing the lights. As an adult who has set up light shows for bands, I can also appreciate the amount of effort that can go into such a project.

Here is what the residents of Kentwood are competing for:

  • 1st Place - Kentwood's Clark Griswold Trophy and a $40 gift certificate to any Kentwood Parks and Recreation program and department swag.
  • 2nd Place - A $20 gift certificate to any Kentwood Parks and Recreation program and department swag.
  • 3rd Place - A $10 gift certificate to any Kentwood Parks and Recreation program and department swag.

The voting will for Kentwood's holiday lights contest will be on the city's Facebook pages from January 4-6.
