Here’s Your Chance to Help Young Children Read
I normally don't put up a job post, but I'll make an exception in this case. You see, it's about kids, young kids, 2nd grade, and reading. Too many children fail to get the encouragement and lessons needed to be successful at reading.
Thanks to a partnership with Amway Corporation, Grand Rapids Public Schools is working with Innovations for Learning to implement TutorMate in the district to improve literacy of students in 2nd grade. TutorMate is the nation’s preeminent online volunteer tutoring program, helping tens of thousands of students in low income communities learn to read.
Innovations for Learning, a national nonprofit, is seeking an excellent communicator and motivator to help teachers implement their unique online tutoring program, which focuses on improving literacy rates in low income schools, in the Grand Rapids Public Schools District. This position is ideal for someone looking for flexible work approximately 10 hours per week during school hours, in a role that has important value to public education.
Innovations for Learning serves schools in 25 major urban areas throughout the country. They partner with over 150 national corporations who recruit volunteers to work with the students on a weekly basis over the Internet. Independent university research has demonstrated the positive impact this program has on student literacy rates.
To succeed in each classroom served, GRPS needs an ambassador for the program who can help teachers get properly started, and then help them maximize the program’s impact throughout the school year.
No prior teaching or coaching experience is needed; all training on the program is provided. We are seeking individuals with exceptionally strong analytical, communication and motivation skills, demonstrated over at least 10 years of professional or executive experience.
