Why Is Harbaugh Giving Away Money?

Harbaugh was the highest paid coach in the Big Ten until last year when his salary was reduced and restructured with an emphasis on incentives. Incentives totaling $4 million.

After the difficult 2020 season, many in the University of Michigan athletics department took a reduction in pay too. Harbaugh is embracing the season of giving with this generous gesture. As of now, the amount of bonus money Harbaugh will distribute to Michigan staffers is still to be determined.

Harbaugh said,

"Whether it's folks that work here in football, or at the ticket department, or baseball coaches, (swimming and diving coach) Mike Bottom. There’s so many people that my wife has gotten very close to, kids have. Really just our family way, our family contribution to those that have had some financial strain through the last 18 months."
