After a season shortened by the Covid-19 pandemic, the high school basketball tournament returns.

"March Madness", the high school version, kicks off Monday with the girls district openers. The boys will follow suit Tuesday.

The districts will run tonight through Saturday, with regional play starting Monday, March 29, and finals week, April 5 through April 10.

Grand Rapids' Van Andel Arena will host the state semi-finals for Division 2 and 4 for both the girls and boys, Thursday April 8 and Friday April 9. The championship games in all four divisions will be at Michigan State's Breslin Center, Friday April 9 (girls, and Saturday April 10 (boys).

A couple of key early games on the girls side Monday include Byron Center taking on Wyoming in the Division 1 district at Throneapple Kellogg, and Allendale squaring off with Unity Christian in Division 2 at Coopersville.

On the boys side, Rockford has a tough test against Forest Hills Central at the D-1 Northview district, while Sparta travels to Comstock Park in Division 2 for their opener against the home Panthers.
