Organizers for the Fifth Third River Bank Run have made some changes in advance of the 38th annual race.

The official charity this year is Stand Up To Cancer. The organization will receive $1 from every paid entry into the race and participants will contribute to the charity in exchange for event day "technical" shirt upgrades.

Race organizers have also added a "race within the race" this year. Elite woman athletes will start 11 minutes and 30 seconds ahead of the elite men and the rest of the field. That is the average difference between the men's and women's race finishing times for the Fifth Third River Bank Run over the ten years.

Splitting the field will create a competition between the men and women. Whoever crosses the finish line first, whether it is a man or a woman, will receive a $1,000 bonus. Organizers are also adjusting start times to make room for the split field. The elite women will start at 8:18:30 a.m. and the traditional 25K start moves back to 8:30: a.m. The Fifth Third 5K Community Walk is moved back to 9:00: a.m.

Online registration for the race is currently open at the Fifth Third River bank Run website.
