Are you wondering what the weather will be for the rest of winter in Grand Rapids and West Michigan?

Check the Farmers Almanac, of course.

Since 1792, The Old Farmer’s Almanac has used a unique, proprietary method of predicting weather that they still use today. They use three scientific methods: Solar Science, Climatology, and Meteorology.

Of course early on, as winter was approaching, there were all sorts of ways suggested to predict just what winter would have to offer.

The Wooly Bear Caterpillar, squirrels gathering nuts early, mice chewing to get in your house, and all sorts of other crazy things were said to forecast a tough or mild winter.

The National Weather Service and our local TV meteorologists always give us a good look at the future weather, but they realistically can't go more than 10 or so days out.

So, it's always fun to look into the crystal ball of the Farmers Almanac, and here is what they say.

It is cold now and will continue most of  January into early February, and from late February into early March. Precipitation and snowfall will be below normal, with the most snow from late January into early February, and from late February into early March.

We have seen so much more snow than we did by this time last year, and that is great for ski resorts and ski bunnies. We are well equipped to handle snow, and most of the time we remember how to drive in winter, so that is not that big a deal.

WILL IT BE WARMER?

It really will not begin to seriously warm up until some time in April, but, hey, that's spring anyway, so it had better warm up.
