The First Full Trailer for ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ Debuts at Comic-Con
It’s been a while since we’ve seen any new footage from the Fantastic Beasts sequel. The first teaser trailer back in March was short, but jam-packed with all the wizardry and action to come in the Harry Potter prequel’s second chapter. Luckily, the the film’s San Diego Comic-Con panel conjured up something new for fans.
During Warner Bros’ panel on Saturday, the cast of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald assembled in Hall H to discuss the sequel. The studio debuted a new Deathly Hallows-themed poster and the first full trailer. The new footage teases tons of awesome and freaky-looking new beasties – what are those blue-eye cat things!? There’s Jude Law’s young Dumbledore looking into the Mirror of Erised and seeing the one thing he desires, which is Grindelwald (hmm and yet this movie won’t address his sexuality and love for the evil wizard). There’s some wild set pieces, and most exciting, the introduction of Nicolas Flamel, Albus’s good alchemist friend mentioned in Harry Potter.
Check out the poster:
The second film, which finds Potter veteran director David Yates behind the camera once again, follows Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander apparating across the globe to catch Johnny Depp’s Grindelwald, who escaped at the end of the first movie. Most exciting, the new film will introduce Law’s hot young Dumbledore, reveal more about Zoe Kravitz’ Leta Lestrange (who certainly has some big secrets), and flashback to show us little Newt and Dumbledore teaching a class at Hogwarts. Here’s the full synopsis:
At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings. In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which also features the return of Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, and Ezra Miller, arrives in theaters on November 16.
