If you have been driving on Alpine Avenue this week you may have noticed lots and lots of first responders, firemen, all over the former TGI Friday's building. What's up?

Is there a fire? Was there an emergency? Did so many units have to respond to keep us all safe?

Not exactly!

Since last Saturday the Walker Fire Department has been hosting firefighters from all over the region for training, specifically for a commercial fire.

They will be training through this Thursday, April 30, and actually welcome anyone passing by to pull in and watch all the training going on!

I don't think they are going to burn the old restaurant down or anything, but you never know.

Seriously, ongoing training is critical for all firefighters. You don't just get the call of a fire and jump in your truck and battle the blaze. You really do need to know what and how to do it properly. We can be so grateful that we do have well trained departments in our area.

Countless lives and structures have been saved because of our firefighters and their quality training.

But we are not only talking about firefighters. Consider other emergency responders such a EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians). EMTs have to have the basic knowledge and skills in order to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life threatening emergencies.

Many times EMTs work right along side of firefighters to assist any burn, accident or medical emergency patient to make sure they get proper care.

Firefighters, EMTs, and more are our super heroes. Bravo!
