Did You Know Two Of The Best Music Venues in America Are in Michigan?
Michigan has given a lot to the musical world. Not only can we claim helping lay the roots for what we know as modern rock 'n roll thanks to our contributions to Motown. We also can can take credit for giving the world some of the best musicians, including Stevie Wonder, Bob Segar, Alice Cooper, and Glen Frey of The Eagles.
So naturally, for us to have some of these amazing musicians coming from the mitten state, we have to have some incredible venues for them to play in.
Currently, Grand Rapids has over 25 venues that offer local and nationally touring musicians the opportunity to show us their musical craft. And, one of those is considered one of the top venues in America.
Pollstar released data on their top clubs in America for the first quarter of 2022, and two venues in Michigan made the list.
Number 26 on the list was... Royal Oak Theatre, in Detroit
The Royal Oak Theatre is one of the most iconic venues in Detroit and earned it's place on this list. Originally opening in 1926 as a movie theatre, it was converted to hold concerts and live events in the mid 1970s.
In the first quarter of 2022, the Royal Oak grossed $440,494, and sold 10,677 tickets.
Number 27 on the list was... The Intersection, in Grand Rapids
This unique West Michigan club is a staple to the music scene. It offers several rooms with stages of various sizes, and for many bands it's a right of passage to move through the rooms until you eventually sell out the largest room in the venue. If you haven't seen a show here, you're missing out on one of my favorite venues in America.
The intersection was opened in 1972 (Which makes 2022 it's 50th birthday!) and has hosted local and national acts from Eric Church to Fall Out Boy. In the first quarter of 2022, they grossed $439,718 and sold 15,673 tickets to music fans across West Michigan.
Congrats to these two iconic venues for helping usher in the return to live music. Have you seen any concerts there? Let me know your favorite one in the comments.
