Back in October I wrote about Denny's, the popular breakfast chain across the country, closing many restaurants.

88 stores were closed last year, 2024, and now they have announced that more stores, more than originally planned, will be closing this year, 2025.

Denny's said back in October that they would close 150 stores, but actually will be closing 178 more locations.

So, even though the Denny's folks still haven't listed the targeted restaurants, we still worry here, will be lose ours.

The Detroit Free Press writes some of the closures are because of expiring leases or aging buildings, and the locations the company plans to shutter are too old to be remodeled or are not turning a profit.

The Free Press listed the still existing Michigan locations, and three are in the Grand Raids area.

  • Battle Creek, 4785 Beckley Road
  • East Lansing, 2701 E. Grand River Ave.
  • Grand Rapids, 3127 Plainfield NE
  • Jackson, 2560 Airport Road
  • Kalamazoo, 3817 Cork St.
  • Kentwood, 3900 28th St. SE
  • Lansing, 7330 W. Saginaw Hwy.
  • Marshall, 804 Old 27
  • Saginaw, 2435 Tittabawassee Road
  • Taylor, 20565 Eureka Road
  • Traverse City, 878 Munson Ave.
  • Wyoming, 715 44th St.

The closures don't mean Denny's is going away or out of business. Ironically, they will actually be adding new restaurants. They announced between 25 and 40 new locations will open, with about half being traditional Denny's and the other half being Keke’s Breakfast Cafes, which Denny's acquired in 2022.

So, hold on to your pancakes. Since Denny's say's that they do not provide advance notice of any closing, it will be a surprise to all of us if and when it happens around here.
