Defendant Who Fled Michigan Served $800k Judgement via Facebook

For one man, Facebook makes it just a little too easy to stay connected.

The Michigan Attorney General's office has served a default judgment for nearly $800,000 and an injunction against the owner of Fan Authentics, a purported online sports-themed retailer. Christopher Carr, 23, formerly of Troy, is required to pay within 28 days.

Carr fled Michigan and stopped responding through ordinary channels, so an order was obtained from Ingham County Circuit Court Judge Clinton Canady III allowing the department to serve Carr through Facebook, where the defendant remains active.

Carr was found to have violated the Michigan Consumer Protection Act, collecting credit card payments for goods through his websites, fanauthentics.com and printrageous.com, and failing to deliver those goods.
