Couple With 21 Grandchildren Win $80 Million Michigan Lotto

Christmas is going to be amazing for the 7 children and 21 grandchildren of this Northern Michigan couple.

The winner will lose almost half of their winnings due to taxes according to Time.com,

Their Powerball ticket matched all five numbers and the Powerball in the Sept. 21 drawing. The couple opted to receive their payment as a one-time lump-sum, which came to $42 million after taxes.

It does seem odd to win $80 million only to take home $42 million.  But I'm sure the family will get by for a while on their lump sum.

54-year-old Phillip Chippewa of Suttons Bay plans on buying homes for each of his children.  He's also excited to have the money to help his family for generations.

We're all very happy for this lucky northern Michigan family.  Stories like this make me want to take all my bottle return money and buy lotto tickets.
