Coloring Easter eggs has been a long tradition for families. Heck, I plan on coloring a few eggs with my son this weekend.

Most people buy the egg coloring kits along with a dozen or two eggs and get the family together for a few hours of fun and then the Easter egg hunt.

With the pandemic putting a halt on a lot of family gatherings, I figured this year's Easter egg hunts might be a bit larger than in the past due to many families walking away from the celebration.

Inflation and oil prices have led to just about everything going up. It takes gas to haul those eggs to the stores so naturally that will play into egg prices rising a little but a new development has caused the prices to rise substantially.

According to WOOD, there has been a recent bird flu outbreak all across the United States that has led to farmers having to kill 20 million chickens in 24 states with this being the worst outbreak of bird flu in this country in seven years.

What this means is for any business that uses eggs like bakeries and restaurants, you can expect an increase in price there as well but the increase may be as high as 35% more.

How Are Chickens Getting Bird Flu?

Migrating birds from Asia and Europe are infecting local birds in the U.S. including chickens and turkeys with avian influenza which is the bird flu and this winds up killing the birds.

Can you imagine the damage that can be done to a U.S. chicken farmer with thousands of birds and a small bird who has the bird flu lands on one of the fences, it is devasting when it happens.

Egg prices are already up 50% and now with a shortage, this could get worse.

I have a feeling more people with make friends with the local family who have some chickens and buy their eggs. Others might even get some of their own chickens and begin raising their own eggs. It's actually something I have been thinking about since I own a small farm that has room to do this sort of thing.
