There are Big Hockey Hearts in Muskegon
Lost luggage when flying is everyone's worst nightmare. No baggage, no nothing, and the airline can't find it. Your heart sinks!
This is the story of a young hockey player, Connor, with a dream of making it in professional hockey.
He was flying in from northern Minnesota and on his way to skate with the Muskegon Lumberjacks.
The Lumberjacks, not a professional team, but the best of the best of young hockey players in the USHL, United States Hockey League. Getting to play in the USHL is quite an accomplishment for young players with the dream of moving on the college hockey and eventually, with luck, professional hockey.
Well, this young player landed in Grand Rapids and his sticks did not. Uh oh! Not good since hockey sticks, not the least of which are silly expensive, but very personal to the player.
Connor's mother posted on Facebook:
"I just received news that my son and husband arrived and the airline lost his hockey sticks. He is just getting into Muskegon to skate for the Lumberjacks from Northern Minnesota. It’s 11pm and he is supposed to skate tomorrow at 10am….. the hockey stores don’t open until noon…. And he has zero sticks! If anyone can help we are not a wealthy family (dad is retired/disabled Army) and he is a great kid who has worked hard for this opportunity."
There are BIG HEARTS IN MUSKEGON! People came out of the woodwork to offer help. They had sticks, or knew where they could find them. A sports store said they would meet Connor there in the morning to make sure he had sticks.
