This morning, protesters physically blocked U.S. Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos from entering a Washington D.C. middle school.

Some applauded the development.

Former Education Secretary Arne Duncan was among others who said she should be let in.

Arne Duncan was Superintendent of Chicago Public Schools from 2001 - 2009. He was U.S. Department of Education Secretary under President Obama from 2009 - 2015. Duncan commented following this morning's protest.

Duncan is right. No dialogue means no progress for our schools and our students. Moving forward will not be easy, but it is not impossible. We will not find common ground if we can not sit and listen respectfully.
