We’re planning on taking an Alaskan cruise in June of next year, and you’re invited.  100.5 The River, Cruise Holiday’s and my wife Kathy and I will host a wonderful cruise to one of the few places I’ve never been, Alaska.  And, I’m told, a place and cruise I’ll never forget.

Kathy and I have had the fortune of cruising 12 times, but all to the Caribbean.  Don’t get me wrong, we could find something worse in life than sitting on the deck of a cruise ship with someone waiting on us hand and foot.  Or, having to suffer through lying on a beautiful beach with blue water soaking up the sun.

But 12 times to the same region and it does all begin to run together.  Okay, I know you’re really feeling sorry for me.  However, I am up for a new adventure, and Alaska is right up my alley.

For those who haven’t cruised before, it is one of the most wonderful ways to travel.  You are literally traveling with your hotel, maid, butler, waiter, chef, concierge, entertainment, all there to make your week one of your most memorable.  A cruise takes the worry out of any vacation.  It’s all laid out before you and you simply chose what you want, and when you want it.

We have had so many great times, made so many new friends and have been able to see places we never thought we’d see.

You return with so many great memories, and for us there are many.  Shopping comes to mind, at least for Kathy.  So many deals…so little time.  Carlos and Charley’s in Cozumel, Mexico is a spot I’ll never forget.  What a party that was.  Swimming through caves in Aruba, golfing along the ocean in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, the Champaign Catamaran sail in St. Thomas were high lights.  Also, white water tubing and kayaking in Jamaica were ‘never-to-forget’ moments.  Especially the kayaking.  We had just one little tiny thing go wrong.

There we were paddling away when we approached another kayak and they were trying to hand me something.  Don’t ever do that.  I sort of lost balance and, yes you guessed, tipped us over.  That was a lot of fun.  We were in deep water, my wife was yelling at me, and everybody else was laughing.  Fortunately there was a safety boat trailing us so they pulled us out of the water, can you say “dead weight,” and took us to shore where we got back in the kayak and paddled back to the launch.  I think I can safely say that was the last time she will kayak with me.

There is one thing wrong with cruising that I should mention.  You have to come home to reality.  It’s a terrible shock.  All of a sudden you have to make your own bed, pick up your own clothes, cook your own food, wash your own dishes, and, worst of all, put your napkin on your own lap.  Oh, the humanity.

So, what are you waiting for?  Come cruise with us to Alaska.  It will be seven days you’ll never forget.
