Cheese is an essential ingredient for just about everything in an American diet. We just can't do without it.

You have cheeseburgers, grilled cheese, cheesy potatoes and any other kind of potato dish, macaroni and cheese, cheese with wine, cheese and crackers, and so much more. We just can't get enough of cheese!

Some popular brands are a little suspect, and ironically, you should avoid them if you can.

The 24/7 Wall St. website published their list of the top seven cheese brands to pass on, and you will probably be a bit shocked. Here is what they say:

#7.  Weight Watchers Cheese

Weight Watchers string cheese contains various food additives and non-specific flavors that manipulate the food’s taste and aroma. Additionally, it might contain antibiotics and hormones used in the production process.

#6.  Borden

Borden produces various processed prepared cheese products filled with artificial ingredients like anti-cake agents and mold inhibitors. Additionally, many of its products were likely contaminated with dioxide.

While it’s not the worst brand you’ll find on the shelves, it certainly isn’t the best either. For one thing, Sargento products contain food additives and are likely contaminated with dioxide and other organic pollutants.

#4.  Velveeta

Velveeta cheese is a longtime favorite in many households. However, Velveeta’s cheese products contain food additives of moderate concern, and antibiotics were likely used in the production of this product.

Walmart’s infamous Great Value brand is a go-to for many discount shoppers, however, Great Value cheese contains a ton of additives and high levels of saturated fat. In fact, this brand likely uses antibiotics and hormones in the production of its dairy ingredients.

Hickory Farms cheese is simply not real cheese. In fact, many consumers say that the cheese tastes terrible and is so over processed that shoppers should avoid it like the plague.

And, the number one cheese brand to avoid.....

#1  Kraft Singles

This is shocking to me because I buy this and had no idea. Kraft Singles are labeled “singles” instead of “cheese” because they’re less than 51% cheese curds. In other words, the cheese is so processed and filled with unnatural ingredients that the brand couldn’t even legally label it as cheese.

Shop and eat safely my friends!
