Downtown Allegan Is Almost Unrecognizable During Roundabout Construction
Allegan has been suffering through what may be the largest road construction project in recent memory. The work on a roundabout where M-89 and M-40 meet a block or so from the city's downtown district has been cumbersome for drivers through the city.
Recently shared drone footage shows a nearly unrecognizable junction between the two highways as the roadbeds have been stripped and land cleared for the large traffic circle.
Drone operator Above Allegan has shared several images of the roundabout construction as of mid-June 2024.

As the roadways are fully closed, there are lengthy detours in place on both M-40 and M-89. The project began in March and is slated to last until November.

While there is plenty of grumbling due to the disruption caused by the construction. Some are able to find the sliver lining in the project including this comment on the Allegan County Informed group on Facebook.
Great job Mdot! These guys are working hard early AM into the evenings. My son loves popping up on the hill to watch their trucks at the end of the day. The workers are always so friendly! Keep up the great work, and ignore all the negative jerks.
