This long 4th of July weekend was just what the doctor ordered.  Three good days to relax, enjoy Michigan's summer and recharge.  It was too short, but, non the less, refreshing.

It got me thinking about vacations, and that I don't use all of the vacation time I'm offered, and I should.  Doctors orders!

What about you?

Health experts say you should, as vacations are as essential to good physical and mental health as healthy eating, sleeping, and exercise.

“Vacations are something we should all make time for in our lives,” said Carol Rich, a licensed clinical social worker with Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services.

“Research shows people who take regular vacations are less likely to be depressed, less tense, and they returned more refreshed,” she said.

The Grand Rapids Press writes that, that may seem like common sense to some, but if a recent survey commissioned by Nestle Waters is any indication, the majority of Americans don’t see it that way.

The poll of 6,003 U.S. adults found nearly three-quarters of Americans polled — 74 percent — say they are they are often “too focused on work or other responsibilities” to take time to enjoy the better things in life.
