It's not often a local, community theatre is offered production rights to a much coveted musical that is on a professional national tour, but Grand Rapids Civic Theatre got that call several months ago. The question? We would like you to produce "A Christmas Story." Are you interested? The answer? Are you kidding? How soon can we get it?Friday night, November 20th, Grand Rapids Civic Theatre proudly opens A Christmas Story. It will run a month, through December 20th, and believe me tickets are going fast.

If you don't know the story, let me take you back to December 1940, in Northwest Indiana. The story is based on Jean Shepherd's semi-autobiographic short story collection In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash and the 1983 film. A Christmas Story is a musical romp for the entire family. It's actually recommended for children and adults, ages eight and older.

I got a preview of the production as they were building sets, and got to meet part of the cast. Bart Sumner plays Jean/Narrator, I don't play anyone, I'm just good at standing around, Santa Claus of course will be there, and Alex Sullivan is Ralphie.

You can get tickets on-line here, GRAND RAPIDS CIVIC THEATRE.
