    Who Shot Sports: A Photographic History, 1843 to the Present

    Comprising over 200 images in color and black-and-white from the past 175 years, Who Shot Sports: A Photographic History, 1843 to the Present presents an astonishing diversity of work by more than 150 photographers. The exhibition includes classic images of legendary athletes and historic action shots, as well as pictures taken behind-the-scenes and on the sidelines. Sports familiar and unfamiliar are represented, in photographs taken across six continents. Fans and spectators worldwide are portrayed, too, demonstrating an enthusiasm for sports that transcends national borders and socioeconomic levels.

    Leonard Bernstein, conductor, composer, pianist, author and lecturer was one of the most accomplished musicians in modern history. Whether composing for Broadway or for the concert hall, Bernstein’s iconic music is the perfect personification of urban American life in the post-World War II era. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Bernstein’s birth, guest conductor Carl St. Clair, music director of the Pacific Symphony for 28 years, leads the Grand Rapids Symphony in a sampling of Bernstein’s most popular music, most of it composed in the 1950s. American pianist Benjamin Pasternack is soloist for Bernstein’s Symphony No. 2, “Age of Anxiety,” and American coloratura soprano Celena Shafer takes the stage for highlights from “West Side Story”, “Trouble in Tahiti” and “Arias and Barcarolles”.

    Save a Life Game Day & Video Game Tournament

    Cost: $22 tournament only/ $32 full day pass

    Attend the 5th annual Save a Life Game Day and help raise money to help sick kids in West Michigan. All money raised goes to our local Children's Miracle Network hospital, Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. Tickets for the full game day are $32 each and include entry to the video game tournament with prizes going to the top two spots, lunch, dinner, snacks, t-shirt, and a raffle ticket for the hourly prize drawing. It also gives you access to our 25 hour (because of the time change) game room with more than 200 board games, video games, card games, and tabletop roleplaying games available. The game room is also holding additional mini board and video game tournaments with excellent prizes going to the winners of each game. Limited spots are available in the mini tournaments. For individuals looking for a shorter day, tickets are also available for the video game tournament only for $22, and include a raffle ticket, lunch, and a t-shirt. Top prize for the video game tournament is a Nintendo Switch! Additional raffle tickets can be purchased for $1 or 6 for $5. All money raised through ticket sales and raffle tickets will go to the Children's Hospital.

    Ethnic Heritage Festival

    The Ethnic Heritage Festival is a day-long celebration of music, dance, crafts and food representing the various ethnic groups that call West Michigan home. The City of Grand Rapids and the surrounding region have a long standing history of diversity and various cultural traditions dating back from early explorers and fur traders, to modern day cultural rituals from new residents of the region. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and features a variety of organizations, performances, beer tastings and presentations. Event activities are included with general admission to the Museum. Colorful performances will take place throughout the day in the Meijer Theater. Visitors will be able to view the Museum’s exhibitions, with two specific exhibitions having a primary focus on diversity and culture: Newcomers: The People of This Place which highlights the ethnic groups that have settled the Grand Rapids area, and Anishinabek: The People of this Place which focuses on the Native American culture in the region.
