We have a few St. Patrick’s Day events this weekend along with LaughFest, Beer Month GR, the Women’s Expo, Hockey, Boxing, and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. In addition, there are a couple of exhibits at the Gerald R. Ford Museum to check out and it’s a FREE day at the Grand Rapids Public Museum on Sunday.

Some activities include the kids, while others are more for the adults.

    LaughFest

    It’s the 10th annual Gilda’s LaughFest. The nation’s first-ever community-wide festival of laughter has quickly earned a reputation for being one of the nation’s marquee events for both participants and artists. Created by Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids and launched in March 2011 to celebrate laughter for the health of it, the festival features stand-up, improv, showcases and a variety of seriously funny stuff. All proceeds from LaughFest benefit the programs offered through Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids, a free community with a comprehensive program of education, structured sharing times, networking, lectures, workshops, and social activities designed to support emotional health. Events this weekend include Jeff Foxworthy at Devos Performance Hall at 8 pm on Saturday.

    Savor the Craft during a month-long celebration of Grand Rapids' exceptional craft beer scene. Highlights include Cool Brews. Hot Eats, the 15th Annual Winter Beer Festival, Sounds of Beer City which features live music at the breweries, and plenty of other beer-centric events at Grand Rapids craft breweries. This is the final weekend of Beer Month GR!

    The Continual Struggle

    The Continual Struggle depicts the pain, sacrifice and emotion of those who fought for freedom during the civil rights movement. This selection of 23 works by artist Brian Washington offers a stark glimpse of those tumultuous times. Celebrate Black History Month at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum through his powerful and moving art. Also on display at the Gerald R. Ford Museum are the Canine Warriors wooden dog sculptures. They were designed by Ohio master craftsman James Mellick, who you may have seen at ArtPrize.

Irish on Ionia 2020 will celebrate its tenth year as Michigan’s largest St. Patrick’s Day street festival. Stretching up Ionia from Fulton to Oakes, and across Weston from Ionia to Commerce, the event will consume three city-blocks including parking area #3.     Free Day at the Grand Rapids Public Museum

    The GRPM will open their doors free of charge on Sunday thanks to sponsorship from Kent County Farm Bureau. Visitors will receive free general admission on this day to explore the Museum’s three floors of core exhibits at no cost, and get hands on with agriculture-themed activities from Kent County Farm Bureau and artifacts from the GRPM Collections. TOYS! and Design Zone will be included free of charge for visitors on the Museum’s Free Day! In TOYS! visitors will rekindle childhood memories and spark the creation of new ones in this interactive, multi-generation exhibition of toys and games. In Design Zone, is a highly interactive, hands-on exhibition where visitors can explore a variety of creative concepts to learn the processes and tools needed to create a successful design. Design Zone is organized into three thematic zones, all highlighting the importance of science and mathematical thinking in areas critical to building creativity and innovation: art, music, and engineering. Additional experiences for visitors include the special traveling exhibit Bodies Revealed and planetarium shows available for additional charge.
