It’s another very busy weekend in West Michigan this weekend. From Gymnastics to Holiday Pops. We have the annual Christmas Tree Lighting at Rosa Park Circles on Friday. There is hockey and basketball, a fly fishing show, a record & cd show, a toy show, and a sportscard & memorabilia show! Plus, a few more chances for you to pick up free tickets for the Grand Rapids Ball Drop in downtown Grand Rapids on New Year’s Eve.
Some activities include the kids, while others are more for the adults.

Gymnastics on the Grand 2019

It will be an exciting weekend of competition hosted by Grand Rapids Gymnastics Booster Club. This is a great experience for athletes and spectators. Competition starts bright and early Friday morning and continues through Sunday evening. The highlight of the meet is the showstopping Event Finals on Saturday evening where the best gymnasts compete head to head. The Event Finals competition on Saturday evening is sponsored by GK Elite Sportswear and preceded by the Special Olympics exhibition.

It’s Grand Rapids’ favorite Holiday music tradition! Your family will thrill to the spectacle of the season as the GR Pops and their very special guests perform this sparkling holiday celebration. Carols, sing-alongs and more. And yes, Virginia, there will be a Santa Claus! New this year, a 6th Wolverine Worldwide Holiday Pops performance has been added, taking place on Friday, December 6 at 10 AM! This one-hour concert will be a shortened version of the holiday favorite, perfect for young families and those who prefer daytime concerts. Please note the Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus and Youth Chorus will not perform at this program.

At this Friday’s game, it will be the Fifth Annual Red Kettle Game presented by The Salvation Army. Because it’s a Friday night game there will also be $2 beers and $2 hot dogs. It will also be College Night and there will be a Red Kettle jersey auction after the game.

Great Lakes Fly Fishing Show

There will be presentations from river guides Kevin Feenstra, Ray Schmidt and Brian Pitser. MSU researchers Emily Dean and Nicole Watson will be on hand to present their fisheries research including the latest on Grayling in Michigan. Come and see expert fly tiers from Michigan and Indiana tie their favorite patterns for all species of fish. Vendors will be there with a variety of fly fishing gear and rod manufacturer representatives will be on hand to discuss the latest in rod technology at their booths. Want to cast a rod or two? Come on over to the indoor casting pond and discover your new favorite rod just in time for Christmas. Fly shops will be on hand so you can be sure to have that rod under the tree. There will also be raffles, a full concession booth, and beer!

The Grand Rapids Ball Drop is returning to downtown Grand Rapids for New Year’s Eve. General Admission tickets are free, but you can only get them at our ticket stops. Our Street Team will be out again this weekend. Look for them in Muskegon on Saturday. They will be giving away 100 Tickets (limit 4 per person).
