    White Elephant Sale

    Cost: Free Admission (Admission to the Early Bird Sale on Friday from 8:00 am-9:30 am is $5.00)

    This extravaganza is one of largest Rummage Sales around -- it fills up a warehouse each year! Two days not to miss! This is the Grand Rapids YMCA Service Club's major fundraiser.  The White Elephant Sale has become a Grand Rapids institution since 1937. Last year's sale was another near-record-breaker in money earned with the large crowds. The sale supports YMCA Camp Manitou-Lin, toward capital improvements and scholarships.

    Cost: Free

    As part of the Mayor Rosalynn Bliss' Greening Initiative, they will be giving away 100 free trees to Grand Rapids residents at Roosevelt Park on Arbor Day (April 26th) from 6-7 pm. No RSVP is necessary, but the trees will be given out on a first-come-first-serve basis to Grand Rapids residents only. The 5-gallon trees are sponsored by Bartlett Tree Experts and LACKS Enterprises, Inc. and are in high demand so please stop by early to pick out your tree! Then on Saturday morning there will be a Tree Planting and Community Celebration. This year’s one-day community tree planting will take place in the Roosevelt Park Neighborhood.

    The West Michigan Whitecaps take on the Lake County Captains this weekend. On Friday, you can get a reserved seat for only $1! On Saturday, you can get a Little Caesars slice of pizza for only $1. Sunday is Helen DeVos Children's Hospital Family Day

    The first 1,000 kids eat free! Also get autographs and play catch on the field before the game and Kids Run the Bases after the game. Also this Sunday, Lawn tickets are only $1.

    Aziz Ansari: Road To Nowhere

    Aziz Ansari is a stand-up comedian, actor, writer, producer and director. Ansari stars in his Emmy Award-winning Netflix hit “Master of None”, which he also writes and directs. Among several other awards and nominations, the show has earned him a 2017 Golden Globe Award for "Best Actor in a TV Series, Comedy" as well as nominations for "Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy" in 2016 and 2017. Aziz co-starred opposite Amy Poehler in the beloved NBC series “Parks and Recreation” for the show's entire seven season run. Aziz's portrayal of government employee "Tom Haverford" earned him critical praise as one of the show's breakout stars and garnered him nominations for an American Comedy Award for "Best Comedy Supporting Actor - TV" and a NAACP image Award for "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series" in 2014.

    Samuel J. Comroe made his TV debut on "Conan" and has appeared on BET's "Real Husbands of Hollywood" with Kevin Hart. He was also the winner of the Ricky Gervais Comedy Competition and The San Francisco Comedy Competition. His comedy is made up of the trials and tribulations of living with Tourette Syndrome since being diagnosed at age six and observational material based on his life experiences. Most recently, he finished in 4th place on "America's Got Talent".

    Come celebrate Earth Day at John Ball Zoo! It's a party... for the planet! What better way to celebrate Earth Day than with the planet’s amazing and diverse wildlife? Come connect with nature and wildlife at this annual Earth Day event. More than 120 of the top zoos and aquariums across North America are throwing a Party for the Planet, making it the largest combined Earth Day celebration in North America! (Also, Kent County DPW will be collecting expired or old car seats to recycle while John Ball Zoo hosts the Party for the Planet!  **Please remove fabric and metal attachments before arriving to streamline the recycling process. Only the large plastic base of the car seat will be recycled.)

    National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

    Cost: Free

    According to the 2017 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet. The DEA’s Take Back Day events provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths. There are several collection sites throughout the West Michigan area.     Celebrate the YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day®, a fun, action-packed free community event to improve the health and well-being of kids and families. Healthy Kids Day will include fun active play and educational activities to keep kids and adults moving and learning. In addition to play, you will be able to learn how the Y can help kids stay active all summer through a variety of programs and camps. This will be a special day-of-event discounts/incentives on memberships and day and overnight camps.
