A mother duck, known for nesting in an East Grand Rapids restaurant's flower box was tragically hit by a car Friday night. Restaurant workers rallied to save her eggs.
On Tuesday morning the City of Grand Rapids received a call to 3-1-1 from a resident who discovered ducklings that had fallen through a grate.
City employees responded quickly and rescued the ducklings.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources recently used a small aircraft to observe and count ducks, geese and swans on southeast Michigan’s waterways for their annual aerial survey. The number of ducks observed this year was down when compared to 2015.
Michigan, Iowa and Wisconsin were the only states authorized by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to implement a three-year experimental duck hunt.
2014 was the first year of the hunt which is being called a success.
