Last week, General Motors announced a recall of their Chevy Cobalt and Pontiac G5 compact cars.  The recall is for approximately 619,000 vehicles in the United States to correct a problem that may unintentionally shut off the engine, airbags or other components.

The recall affects Chevy Cobalt and Pontiac G5 vehicles from model years 2005, 2006 and 2007.  Weight on the key ring, road conditions or other "jarring" events have the potential to cause problems with the ignition switch, which could turn off the engine or disable critical systems.

If you own one of these vehicles, you'll receive a notification from GM and will get the switch replaced, free of charge, at a GM dealer.  You may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 or Pontiac at 1-800-762-2737 for more information.
