RECALL: Ford Escape, Explorer, Taurus and Mercury Mariner
Last week, Ford Motor Company announced recall of nearly 1.5 million vehicles (mainly SUV's) because of concerns about steering problems. Here is a breakdown of the vehicles affected:
2008-2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner, 2011-2013 Ford Explorer
The recall is due to a concern about faulty sensors and electrical connections that may cause a loss of power steering. Although Ford is aware of some accidents and injuries that could be related to the problem, it's important to note this will only cause a loss of power steering, not your entire ability to steer.
Not all vehicles have the same issue, so some recalled vehicles will get a new physical part and others will receive a software upgrade.
2010-2014 Ford Taurus
Ford is also recalling nearly 200,000 Ford Taurus vehicles because of a concern about corrosion in the license plate lamp. Any corrosion due to road salt may cause the lamp to short out and overheat, which could cause a fire. The recall is in 20 states that use road salt in the winter - which obviously affects us here in Michigan.
2006-2001 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, Lincoln Zephyr and MKZ
This one is due to floor mats. Yes, floor mats. The concern is they mats can be improperly installed and come in contact with the accelerator pedal.
