A bill being considered by the Michigan state legislature would allow bars and restaurants to keep EpiPens on hand.

More than 15 million Americans suffer from food allergies, and doctors say that EpiPens are the most effective way to treat an emergency food allergy reaction.

The bill that has been introduced to the Michigan House of Representatives - HB 5668 - would allow restaurants and bars to decide whether they want to stock EpiPens or not, and also protect them from liability if they choose to do so.

Some bar and restaurant have expressed concerns about the proposed law, stating that they are worried about placing the responsibility of using the EpiPens in the hands of their waitstaff.

But, doctors say they are easy to use and have few negative effects.

EpiPens cost around $300. Under the proposed bill, the businesses would pick up the tab, meaning there would be no cost to the state or taxpayer.
