In a statewide poll done by the Institute of Public Policy and Social Research at Michigan State University, more than 57 percent of state residents surveyed are optimistic about the economy in 2011.  That's the most optimism shown in the yearly survey since 2004.  And it looks like it bodes well for Gov Rick Snyder.

“If I was Gov. Snyder, I would be real happy to see this number,” said MSU economist Charles Ballard, because it reflects a “latent optimism” he can tap for support as he rolls out his policies. And if those policies are perceived to be working after a 2011 year likely to show economic improvement anyway, Snyder could get the credit.

“If you had to pick a time to come into office, there wouldn’t be a much better time than the one Rick Snyder has picked,” Ballard said this morning.

Only 24 percent believe they'll be worse off this year -- that too is the lowest number in years.
