It's no doubt the world we live in is a scary one and that's why the Michigan State Police are taking extra precautions to make sure the public is safe.

Effective as of last Wednesday, the MSP will be sending out text message alerts to people when an active shooter is present.

Governor Snyder signed the bill into a law in July after six people were killed during the mass shooting in Kalamazoo, in February.

If there is a situation where an active shooter is present, local police will notify the MSP who will then send out the text message alerts to all cell phones. TV and radio stations will also be alerted. The notifications will automatically be sent out which means you do NOT have to opt-in to receive the messages.
