Monday, November 12, 2012 marks a day where Americans rally together to honor the men and women of the armed forces.  Memorial Day is a time for the community to get together to show thanks for the people in uniform who defend this country.  Many things are happening in and around Grand Rapids to commemorate this day.  Below you will find a list of Memorial Day parades, events, and memorials.


Grand Rapids Veterans Day Parade

When: Saturday, November 10, 2012 | 7:30pm

Where: Division St., Fulton St., Veterans Memorial Park

What: The parade will go down Division to Fulton Street before ending in the Veterans Memorial Park for a ceremony honoring veterans.


Davenport University Veterans Day Celebration

When: Friday, November 9, 2012 | 9:30am

Where: Davenport University - 6191 Kraft Avenue Southeast  Grand Rapids, MI 49512

What: Davenport University will be displaying Army and National Guard equipment that is currently being used in Afghanistan and Iraq starting at 9:30am.  A Blackhawk helicopter will be touching down on the campus at 10am.  A military fly-over is then planned for 10:40am (weather permitting.)  Finally, their will be a moment of silence observed at 11am.


Kent City High School Special Assembly

When: Friday, November 9, 2012 | 9:45am, 11am - 12:30pm

Where: Kent City High School - 351 N Main Street Northwest  Kent City, MI 49330

What: Kent City High School is having a special assembly for veterans starting at 9:45am.  There is also a lunch for veterans and guests after the ceremony from 11am - 12:30pm.


West Ottawa High School Special Assembly

When: Friday, November 9, 2012 | 8:45am

Where: West Ottawa High School - 3685 Butternut Drive  Holland, MI 49424

What:  West Ottawa High School is having a special assembly fo veterans starting at 8:45am.  Veterans and their guests who wish to attend are asked to arrive 30min early for refreshments.


The City Of Wyoming Veterans Day Ceremony

When: Friday, November 9, 2012 | 6pm

Where: Veteran's Memorial Garden - Veterans Memorial Dr SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49534

What: The City of Wyoming is honoring it's veterans with a ceremony being opened up by a message from Mayor Jack Poll.  The ceremony will feature the commander of the 63rd brigade in Wyoming Colonel Pablo Estrada Jr.


Fountain Street Church Veterans Day Ceremony

When: Friday, November 9, 2012 | 11am

Where: Fountain Street Church - 24 Fountain Street Northeast  Grand Rapids, MI 49503

What: The ceremony will take place in the Memorial Tower room and feature a wreath laying and remarks from Mayor George Heartwell.
