Six years after the Grand Rapids Rampage franchise folded, there's a possibility that professional indoor football could be returning.

WZZM 13 reports that the PIFL (Professional Indoor Football League) is looking to expand at two more teams to the league for the 2015 season, and Grand Rapids is among five cities being considered.

"We have some people that approached us, and we'll be narrowing it down over the next few weeks," Jeff Knight told WZZM. Knight serves as the PIFL's director of expansion. "We hope to add two more teams and Grand Rapids is one of those teams, provided the ownership group can match everything that it needs to qualify to play with us."

Knight wouldn't reveal the names of the local ownership groups the PIFL has been negotiating with, but he said that the deadline for announcing the two expansion cities is October 1st.

The other four cities Grand Rapids is competing with for a franchise are:

Augusta, Georgia

Atlanta, Georgia

Little Rock, Arkansas

Toledo, Ohio

The PIFL is relatively new. It will be entering only its fourth year in 2015.

The season runs from April through June.
