A stretch of M-116 in Mason County is being renamed to honor fallen Michigan State Police Trooper Paul Butterfield under legislation signed by Governor Snyder.

M-116 between Lincoln River and Big Sable River will be called the Trooper Paul K. Butterfield II Memorial Highway. Trooper Butterfield was killed in the line of duty by Eric Knysz in September 2013.

Governor Snyder also signed a bill naming part of M-6 the David Warsen Memorial Highway. Warsen, a Navy SEAL, was killed in Afghanistan in August 2012.

A Carson City solder is also honored by similar legislation. A portion of M-57 in Montcalm County will be called the Joseph Prentler Memorial Highway. Prentler was killed in Afghanistan in October 2010.
