ArtPrize8 is underway and people are exploring the city looking at the different art pieces and installations, but you might also spot a fun family project Aaron and his 6 kids spent a year putting together.

Aaron and his 3 older kids have been painting rocks, leaves and sticks for a while now, leaving them around town and their neighborhood as just a side project to bring smiles to the people who happen to spot them during their normal day to day.  But this year, he decided he wanted to do something bigger and bring it to downtown Grand Rapids for ArtPrize.

He enlisted the help of all 6 of his kids and they spent the last year painting fun, crazy faces on over 1,000 rocks that are now scattered throughout the downtown area ready for people to find and take pictures.  He said that half the rocks are on display right now at the Children’s Museum so you can get an idea of how big a project this really was, but the other half are placed all around town.

it’s like a giant game of I-Spy… or a real-life version of Pokemon GO!

So while you’re on the hunt for the next ArtPrize piece, also keep an eye open for one of the crazy rocks that are watching you; just remember, they’re there for pictures, not for the taking.
