Grand Rapids has been chosen to host the 2017 State Games of America.

Officials with the National Congress of State Games on Tuesday that Grand Rapids will be hosting the event which is scheduled for Aug. 3-6, 2017.

The board of the National Congress of State Games heard presentations from four cities at a meeting in Grand Rapids. All of the cities were vying for the opportunity to host the games. Other potential sites included San Diego; Lincoln, Nebraska; and Hampton Roads in Virginia.

The State Games of America is an Olympic-style event that's held every other year. it features competition between State Games medal winners from across the nation.

The 2015 State Games of America is scheduled for Lincoln, Nebraska, from July 28 to Aug. 2.
